The denim skirt is undeniably a versatile wardrobe staple that adds a touch of effortless style to any outfit. However, it can also look chic and sophisticated in a longer length, just like this one showcased by fashion blogger Fashion Jackson. A few months ago, I introduced a pattern for a mini denim skirt, and I am excited to present a modified pattern featuring a longer length, offering an elegant and refined take on the classic denim skirt!
Designed specifically for non-stretch denim, this updated pattern incorporates a front slit, ensuring comfortable movement without compromising on style. Moreover, the pattern features the quintessential denim details, including the distinctive coin pocket, front fly, waistband with belt loops, as well as the back pockets and yoke.
One of the remarkable aspects of this longer denim skirt is its versatility. Whether you prefer a casual, laid-back look or seek sophistication in a professional setting, this skirt adapts to diverse styling preferences. Embrace the all-denim ensemble by pairing it with a coordinating denim jacket, or exude understated elegance by combining it with a tailored blazer and a simple, yet refined t-shirt.

Sewing Notes
Reminder that seam allowances are 1 cm (3/8″) wide, unless stated otherwise.
- Be sure that you cut the left-hand front panel on the line shown on the slit!
- Then, be sure to fuse all the pieces that require interfacing!
- If youโre using the topstitching thread, thread it in the needle, and wind the bobbin with a matching all-purpose thread. Topstitching thread is thicker, so this means that you must also use a thicker needle.
- Be sure to make a tension test on a fabric scrap!
- Assemble the skirt in this order: front pockets, front fly, center front seam, front slit, back pockets, yoke, center back seam, side seams, waistband, belt loops, and button/buttonhole/rivets.
- Bar tacks are placed on areas subjected to stress such as: bottom of fly, top and bottom of belt loops, and top corners on the back pockets.
- Check the video tutorials below to help you assemble the most difficult parts. To sew the slit, follow the sleeve slit tutorial. It’s the same technique, but you swap the undersleeve for the right-hand side and the upper sleeve for the left-hand side.
